July Dog Food Recipe -- Chicken Chop

Posted by

This is one of my dogs' favorite recipes.  It's simple to make with just a few ingredients you can get at your local Farmers' Market or Farm Stand.

Chicken Chop

Chicken Chop

Serving:  534 calories; 1 serving for a medium sized dog (30-50 lbs)

Ingredients:

2 Tbs Olive Oil

1/2 Cup Water

1 - 4oz Chicken Breast

1/2 Cup Chopped Baby Spinach

1 Medium Sweet Potato

Directions:

Wash the sweet potato throughly.  Using a fork, poke the sweet potato several times.  This allows steam to escape from the potato while its cooking.  Cook the sweet potato in the microwave on high for 6-8 minutes, or until soft.

While the potato is cooking, take the raw chicken breast and cut it into 1 inch cubes.  Put olive oil into a sauté pan and heat over medium-high heat until the oil is shimmering (approximately 2 minutes).  Carefully add the chicken cubes to the pan.  The oil will splatter, so be careful as to not get burned.  Sear each side of the chicken for approximately 90 seconds.  Reduce heat to medium, add half the water, cover with a lid and let simmer for about 4 minutes.

While the chicken is cooking, carefully cut the cooked sweet potato into 1/2 inch cubes and give the baby spinach a good rinsing.  Add the sweet potato and spinach to the chicken and mix thoroughly.  Add the rest of the water and cover.  Simmer for 2 more minutes.

Allow to cool before feeding it to your dog.  I often will put it into their dishes and place in the refrigerator for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

This recipe can be made in large quantities and stored in a proper container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
